Helpful Hints for Choosing Handmade Rugs

There are some things in life that are worth paying a little extra money for. Fine wines, good wedding photographers and handmade rugs are just a few. Like fine wines and wedding photographers, there are many options to choose from when it comes to a handmade rug; so many, in fact, that a person might find the selection overwhelming! But rugs made by hand are just like fine wines; there are a lot of options available, but by considering what you want the rug (or wine) for, you'll be able to narrow down the options quickly.

To start, you'll want to consider where in your home you want to put your rug, as this will affect many aspects of choosing a rug. If it will be going on the floor, as most handmade rugs will, you'll want to choose the proper weave for the amount of traffic it will receive. A dense weave is going to be ideal if the rug will be going in a high traffic area, whereas a less dense weave would be fine for bedrooms. You'll also want to consider what sizes would work for the area, and be open to a choosing a smaller one, especially if monyou are on a budget. Remember, the larger the handmade rug, the more work it takes, the more expensive it will be!

Other things to look for in a handmade rug are weight and movement. Handmade rugs being used on the floor should be thick enough and heavy enough not to pull up at the corners. In addition, you'll want to be sure to place the proper padding underneath rugs, so that they don't move - either in the direction of the carpet pile, or across a hardwood floor.

With those things in mind, you'll next want to consider the existing decor of the room the rug will be going in, and the feel you would like to create. There are thousands of different styles, colors and designs available in handmade rugs, so it will be helpful to have some ideas about what you want before you start looking.
